Meet The Staff
Rev. Patty Johansen
Pastor Patty grew up in east Central Illinois, and except for four years in Denver CO for seminary, has spent her entire life in the mid-section of Illinois. Serving full time in ministry since 1985, she has been appointed to all types and sizes of churches: small town, urban, and collar communities. One of her greatest joys is when someone who is new to faith begins to grasp the depth of Jesus’ love, and then begins to share it with others. She’s been married to Rev. Mike Crawford since 1988, and they have two adult children: Kara, who lives in NYC, and Mark, who lives in the Bloomington-Normal area. She loves reading, cooking, gardening, traveling, and snow. And she loves Quincy, and the diversity of people here.
Kimberly Woods is a graduate from Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary with a Masters of Arts in Christian Education. She has a passion for youth ministry, writing, communications, and accessibility in the church for all persons. She joined the United Methodist church in 2009 & has been an active participant at the local church, district, and conference level in a variety of ministries, including chair of the Conference Committee on Youth Ministry and serving as a lay delegate to General Conference in 2016.
"I am so happy to be part of the staff at Vermont Street, working with children, youth, & their families to build stronger connections to their church & to God."
Dr. Ann Behrens
Organist & Music Coordinator
Ann has been part of the staff since September 2013 when she came as organist, and then later added the Chancel Choir duties. But she’s been a member of VSUMC since she was three, so through the years she also served as the Wesley Choir director (Jr. and Sr. High youth) and also filled in for a year or so as Chancel Choir director when a previous director left right before Christmas. Ann is the Vice President for Academic Affairs at Quincy University. She basically works with the faculty to create new academic programs, create/refine existing programs, hire new faculty, and help coordinate assessment of student learning.
Hand Bell Choir Director
Jean is the director of the Handbell Choir. The choir meets throughout the school year and adds an instrumental anthem as part of the worship church service. The choir also enjoys sharing their music around Quincy and have been to several of the nursing homes in the area. Jean has a degree in music education and has recently retired from teaching music in the Quincy Public Schools. She loves to play the clarinet and you would see her in the Quincy Concert Band, the Quincy Community Theater pit orchestra, the Quincy Park Band, and other community music groups. Jean also likes to sing and play the guitar. She has been a lifelong member of Vermont Street UMC and considers the church her extended family.
Sara Bange has been with the preschool since September 2014. She has an education degree from Culver-Stockton College and is currently a teacher in the 4 year old classroom. Sara is a Quincy native and is married to Steve. They have a son and daughter, ages 12 and 9.
Al Jones has been the custodian at VSUMC for over 35 years! He is married to Debby, and their daughter is Janell. His interests include square dancing. He would like the congregation to know that he appreciates the cooperation of this congregation in taking care of our facility, and it’s a pleasure to work here. He thinks we are nice people, and he appreciates that we’ve treated him and his family right over the years.
Amber has been an active United Methodist all of her life with children and youth choirs as well helping with multiple VBS's. She married Lorne Kelley November 25, 2006 and now has 3 children. The Kelley's moved to Quincy in May 2017 when Lorne became Technical Director/ Scenic Designer for QCT. Amber brings a background of customer service, event planning and office organization after being the Event Planner/ Wedding Coordinator for her In-Laws B&B in southern Utah. She has quickly become involved in the church with the Chancel and occasionally the Handbell Choir.
"I am blessed to have found this church family and am thankful for this opportunity to be a part of the staff."
